Ideas for Repurposing Old Jewelry

As promised in my last post, I’m going to begin a series of articles about ideas for repurposing and reusing things you might already have but be tempted to donate, or things from thrift stores. Today I’m going to kick it all off with some fun things you can do with old jewelry, specifically old pendants, brooches and earrings. Most of us already have lots of such things that we never wear, but those odds and ends and too big and too gaudy things are perfect starting points for some really awesome projects.

Bejeweled Magnets

A simple and quick idea that you can enjoy and use every day is to make magnets of them! Simply take off any backing that gets in the way and use a heavy-duty glue like E6000 to adhere to your magnets, which you can get at craft stores like Michael’s or home improvement stores like Lowe’s. Your refrigerator will never be the same!

Jeweled Picture Frame

Another fun thing to do is to make a jeweled picture frame. Again, take any backings off your earrings or brooches and then use E6000 to adhere them to your substrate. Just be careful not to make a mess with your glue—E6000 works great but its very sticky.

Ribbon Necklace

If you have some really special pieces that you love but might be a bit much on their own, make a necklace by attaching them to some beautiful ribbon.

Decorate a Topiary Structure

And for a fun table top idea, get a topiary structure at Michael’s and cover the round parts with your old jewels. It’s guaranteed that no two could ever be alike! You can this the idea in action HERE!
